Tipping at Rome Hotels

Do you tip the staff at Rome hotels? If so how much? Travel agents hear this question all the time. The simple answer is yes, tips are expected by the staff at hotels in Rome, Italy. The concierge of a hotel will likely charge for his or her services, if so, a tip of 15% of their bill is sufficient. The chambermaid should be left EUR 1 per day which is also a standard tip for a valet or room service waiter. In restaurants, a 5% tip is considered a good tip in a moderately priced establishment. The standard 15% tip is now usually included in the price of the meal.

At the expensive 4 and 5 star hotels in Rome city centre, double these amounts. You’ll also need money on you to tip tour guides, restroom attendants and taxi drivers so always carry spare cash. You are not expected to tip for poor service but if you do receive poor service, mention it promptly to the management of the facility. Many places in Rome depend on tourists for their livelihood so they like to know if a staff member does not provide good service.

A holiday in Rome can be expensive when you add up tips, extra charges that Rome hotels add to your bill, the hotel tax and more. Don’t forget to add these extra costs into your budget when planning your holiday.
